Always #likeagirl
Women's day is a very important
celebration in the EP Javeriana. Our mediators’ team developed an
activity to discuss in different classes. One of the videos they played was
#likeagirl… What do you think doing things like a girl means?

I have a dream...
Peace day is a very important day at our School. This year Asunción Esteso from EP Xavier proposed to talk about Martin Luther King Jr. and we decided to do an activity in our English classes with Cooper, our native assistant. We watched part of his speech...
And closed our eyes to picture our dream....
If you want to learn more about Martin Luther King you can always watch Selma.

EP Xavier launches Business is fun: Shopping in Valencia
Good news! When we presented in the teacher’s meet in
Galapagar our experience implementing the BEDA Programme, the E.P. Xavier
decided to launch some of our Business is fun projects in their classes.
We were really excited with the idea and started
exchanging materials. Asunción Esteso adapted the project with lots of enthusiasm
and the Students of the Commercial Activities Degree really got involved in the
activity. The result: a wonderful
Shopping in Valencia project.
The
challenge: finding out if Valencia’s
commercial area is oriented to tourism. The
students visited the city centre area taking pictures of the signs they found
in different languages and analysed the information afterwards.
Asunción Esteso, the teacher who ran the project, says: “We enjoyed the activity very much. Thanks for sharing it! It is a different approach to English that increases motivation and communication”. You can read a more extensive reflection on her experience on EP. Xavier's blog.

CONGRATULATIONS
from E.P. Javeriana to the students that participated in the project and of course, to Asunción for the initiative and for sharing all the materials with us. You did a great job!
We are just posting a
sample of the student’s work but you can read the whole document by clicking on
the image. Please do, it is very interesting!!
"We made this work because we wanted to know if
Valencia is a city oriented to tourism. The purpose of this work is to take
photos of what we consider shops oriented to tourists. We assess the written
signs in different languages.

Here we have a cardboard where we can see a typical British menu oriented to that kind of tourists, It was located near Plaza la Virgen and it was surprisingly successful.
As you can see in that panel there are mixed words in both languages, Spanish and English so local people and everyone that speaks English can understand what kind of food they are offering.
It’s very important to local shops owners to
find a way to communicate with those clients because they can mean an important
income for their economy in a city oriented to tourism as Valencia. In the last
photo as you can see it doesn’t take much effort to write the words “fast food”
but it has a powerful impact in people that speak English.

The Supply Chain
Our second year Administration and Finance class worked on the Supply Chain. Here are some of their final projects:
PABLO SERRANO
Hello, my name is Pablo a student of Administration and Finance, and I am going to present to you my logistics vocabulary work, about the supply chain.
MARI CARMEN LÓPEZ:
The companies
must comply with a series of procedures to offer the end consumer, not only the
service or the finished product, but the satisfaction that they want to obtain.
The demand of the clientele is becoming more demanding, however, different
companies are intertwined with each other, through a complex logistical
process, in order to get consumers to have everything they need at their
fingertips.
In order for the Supplier Customer
relationship to be satisfactory and efficient, one must have a good logistics
management and always keep in mind that each link that makes up the supply
chain is unique and if one fails the others will be affected.
To make it more
visual, I present my infographic that shows each part of the chain and its main
functions.

BEDA BEST PRACTICES FORUM: CONCLUSION
A great experience!! I really loved presenting “Business
is fun” to English teachers. It was so great having the opportunity to launch
the challenge and see all the teachers working on it in English. I have to say
they did a great job generating ideas on a Saturday morning J. What they liked most: adapting the
materials, the patent form, entrepreuning in English, and using storyboardthat.
In the end we agreed: Business is fun!
Thank you BEDA for the opportunity!!! For more

Hello Escuela Profesional Javeriana
My name is Cooper Wilson. I am the new conversation assistant. I am 27 years old. Currently, I am studying for a master's degree in teaching English and Spanish at New York University in Madrid. I am from Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA. My family has lived there since the 1860s (which is a long time for the US). Michigan is a state that looks like a hand in the north of the US. I lived in Spain in 2011-2012 and I am very excited to be back. In college, I studied Spanish and Japanese. In the past, I have worked as a Spanish-English medical interpreter, a paralegal, and many jobs related to education. I am a proud uncle with a two-year old nephew. I’m interested in teaching languages for professional application, so I am really excited to work at a professional school! Outside of work, I like theater, love to cook (because I love eat), and like dancing. I’m looking forward to getting to know all the faculty, staff, and students of the Escuela Profesional Javeriana!
