ERASMUS 2020-2021

 

Hello everyone!

As you may know, we are back on track with the Erasmus+ Programme. Even though we are in the middle of a worldwide pandemic, we are still hopeful and we want to provide our students with the best opportunities that they could have while they study with us.

Usually, by this time of the year we are in the midst of interviews with the different companies that collaborate with us; but since we couldn't do the selection process last April due to a whole country lockdown and ending the school year online without being able to see our students at least once before the summer holidays, we are doing it now.

All students in their second year at the EPJ are welcomed to start the selection process. To do so, you need to send the following documents to the ERASMUS e-mail from the Escuela Profesional Javeriana:

• Your CV (Curriculum Vitae) in English following the EUROPASS format
• Cover Letter / Presentation Letter explaining why you want to be an Erasmus student from the EPJ.
• Document by the bank or family members stating that you have either enough savings or that they are willing to help you economically through the three months that internships last

All documents must be submitted by Friday 30th of October at 23:59.

We are contacting the companies and establishments that usually collaborate with us to see how they are doing after their respectives lockdowns and hoping that they are being safe and wishing them the best. Thankfully, most of them are back to business as normal, without any major incidents!

As soon as we have all the documents, we will start the process of interviewing with each candidate and assessing their English level in order to make the final decision.

ERASMUS+ 2020 KICK OFF

Hello everyone!

After a very busy month of February our Erasmus+ students are ready and eager to spread their wings and live new experiences.

María José and Natalia are getting ready to fly to the UK. It has been a very stressful beginning of the year because we didn't know what could happen because of the Brexit and how it would affect their internship.

Thankfully, everything has been set, and they are good to go and learn a lot about imports and exports.

Natascha and Luis Eduardo are going to go to Poland and be a little bit cold at the beginning; hopefully they are ready for it. They are going to be more involved in regards to marketing and also administrative work.

Finally, Luis is going to Ireland and enjoy the beautiful scenery they have. His internship is also closely related to administrative work.

We wish them all the best and hopefully they'll come back with a better knowledge of English and much more independent.

10 years being ERASMUS+

Ten years ago we sent our first Erasmus students on an adventure, but it wasn't only an adventure for them, it was also for us, the ones that stayed behind making sure that their experience was going well and being their homebase in case something went wrong.

We can definitely say that the beginnings weren't easy: the administrative work in order to be and Erasmus+ institution, looking for companies that would welcome our students during three months to do practice work, but also to advise them in any doubts they could have about living in that foreign country, and so many more hurdles...

We are happy to say that, in one way or another, we have been able to send students to many different countries: Ireland, the UK, North Macedonia, Czech Republic, Poland, Croatia, Estonia... And we are getting ready to collaborate on a whole other level with other institutions.

In addition, we cannot forget to mention that the Erasmus+ programme not only has enriched the experiences of our students while doing their practice work abroad, it has also been an opportunity for us teachers. Firstly, because we have had to keep in mind that the learning process has to contemplate the global world and society we live in, but also it has allowed some of us to travel and see how other places work and what we can learn from them.

In conclusion, we are overjoyed with how these 10 years been part of the ERASMUS+ programme have made us improve ourselves, and we cannot wait to see what the next 10 years have in store for us!

WELCOME BACK!

Our ERASMUS+ students are back in Spain!

They have come back sharing their experiences in Poland, Estonia, Ireland and the UK. After almost three months we have no doubt that they have improved both their professional skills as well as personally.

The students from Grado Superior had to demonstrate their improvement while presenting their final projects completely in English.

They have shown that these three months have been well exploited. Not only their speaking has advanced leaps and bounds; they have also shown how working in a different environment has made them think outside of the box and present very interesting projects.

We hope that their experience doesn't stay as a fond memory, but that they will use those skills learnt all their life.

WELCOME TO BILINGUAL FP!

Some months ago, our students from Transport and Logistics decided to record a video promoting our school. Specifically, why being learning English is fun in the Escuela Profesional Javeriana and why being bilingual is a challenge but we are learning a lot because of it.

We are the first bilingual FP school in the BEDA programme, it has been hard work, put we are very proud of what we have accomplished because of it. 

Last year the class of 2018 of International Trade was the first bilingual promotion ever at our school. This year, the class of 2019 of Administration and Finance is going to be the first bilingual promotion of this Degree. In between 2018 and 2019 three classes will have finished their bilingual degrees and we are very proud of them for believing that they could do it and proving that it is possible!

Our ERASMUS students are writing back telling us how their experience is going!

From Bradford, England Viviana and Paula have a lot to tell us!

Hello everyone!

Living here has been a great experience not just because is our first time living alone, it's everything, how culture changes here: things like meals or bedtime are different from Spain so Paula and I had to adapt our time to sleep or eat (also entertainment) to UK time. I'm comfortable working for the Chamber International.

The company is comfortable, the people in the office are very kind and they always have patience when we don't know how to do things, also they are very friendly and chatty, our boss Tim, always includes us in meetings, projects, training courses to improve our skills and also wants us to know how the company works in international trade. We also have our own projeect here they are trying help us with everything.

I've visited a few places since I've been here, York, Leeds, a few places in Bradford like the shopping center, pubs, the library, there are here a lot of restaurants!!, Indian and Lebanese food here is incredible.

Two days ago I went to Leeds for our training course and it's a nice place!!! 

Adrián and Lucía are going to tell us how Poland is treating them!

Hello!

The experience in Poland is being fantastic. When you finish your studies it is a good time to complete your training in another country. You can learn about other cultures and other working methodologies, and obviously you feel how your English improves little by little.

All of these are essential to be more polyvalent in the future.

Everything here is good, these four weeks have been very interesting, it was easy to adapt to the company and meet people at work because we are nine students with an Erasmus+ scholarship and all of them are kind and young people. Poznan in a fantastic city for students because there are a lot of universities and the atmosphere in the beautiful streets is very nice.

I am living in a student's residence and I have met a great amount of people there, Italian, Spanish and Chinese too, my neighbour of the next room, Hun Loo, is from there. I think that next month is going to be amazing.

Finally, Andrés, who is in Estonia is telling us about his experience:

Hello!!

My name is Andres and I'm doing my Erasmus in Tallinn, Estonia. My experience here didn't start as I expected, this country is so quiet and chill and people seem cold from my point of view, however the city centre has a lot of amazing places where you can visit them and have fun to meet new people. Their natural parks are amazing when we have good weather. The place where I've been working is one of the best places in Tallinn. The people that are working here are friendly and and don't hesitate to help when you need them to.

ERASMUS STUDENTS TAKE OFF!

This school year, seven of our students have taken the plunge and decided to do their practice work abroad.

This year the destinations are Tallinn (Estonia), Poznan (Polonia), Bradforf (UK) and Dublin (Ireland).

At the beginning of March, they signed all the documents and posed for a ERASMUS EPJ class of 2019.

We hope that they learn a lot both professionally and personally. We are excited for them and waiting for news on how their first 15 days have gone!

PRESENTING LOGISTICS IN ENGLISH!

This school year, the second year students from Administration and Finance have begun studying the module of Logistics in English following the CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) methodology.

After the first month of lessons and projects, these students have presented their experience and some of their work to their colleagues in first year of Administration and Finance in order to motivate them and tell them that it isn't as difficult as it seems.

After sharing this moment, our students have decided to tell how was the experience for them.

The first  group is Adrián, Carla, David, Laura Martín and Lucía:

Last week, we did an English presentation to Administration and Finance students of first year because we are studying one subject in English. The main change of this subject is that it is the first subject in a foreign language. We had to explain the supply chain, between raw materials to end consumer, of a product that we have invented in Business Simulation, another subject.

It was a good experience because it was in English and our mates could see that it isn't difficult to do a presentation in another language, this is very important to improve our English level and it helps to forget about being scared while presenting.

Another group is the one formed by Haitam, Leticia, Laura R., Gonzalo and Guillermo:

At first we were overwhelmed by the idea of ​​having to present in English to some colleagues we did not know, however, we put a lot of effort and after several days of preparation, we presented it to our teacher and she congratulated us for the work done as well as the other colleagues.

Today, we appreciate the opportunity offered by our teachers to share our work with other classes and thus receive feedback from other points of view.

The third group is Luisa, Miguel, Yolanda, Laura Medina and Jose Luis:

Taking logistics in English is an excellent opportunity to learn English in a different way than usual. The use of vocabulary is very beneficial for our future, because we not only use common terms and memorize them, in addition, we apply it to practical cases to know how to develop the concepts learned day after day.

The method used, CLIL, is a different and effective way to learn as it seems more simple and entertaining when it comes to studying. All this leads us to work as a team getting more involved in this subject and help each other to understand the terms correctly.

And the last group is formed by Juan, Yaiza, Alicia, Paula and Almudena:

We think that is a good idea to show our new mates the postive things about making presentationsin English, because this new experience that we are learning at Javerianas can open new oportunities for us; and the most important, we are talking in English.

It’s not necessary to have a high English level to make it, you can play around with vocabulary and you will learn a lot too. Until you do it, you can’t have an opinion! Try it first! Work! Learn! And if you need help come to us, we will help you! We won’t eat anybody (yet)!

It seems that the first year of Bilingual Administration and Finance students are onto a good start and enjoying the new challenge!

AN EXICITING VISIT ALL THE WAY FROM CROATIA!

Some of you may know that the last few years we have been able to send some of our students abroad to do their trainships through the ERASMUS+ programme. A few years ago, a couple of our students from Dietetics were able to do this in Croatia at the POLYTECHNIC IN POŽEGA where they had a very good and enriching experience. And it's through this collaboration that we have been able to meet Valentina here in Madrid.

Valentina came to Escuela Profesional Javeriana in order to meet us (since we have only been in contact through e-mail) and to see if we could develop our relationship a little bit more. Valentina's visit started with a tour of our school and explaining a little bit more how we work and what are our main objectives and our students' profile. It's a that moment that we realized that our schools are more similar than what we thought!

We took the oportunity offered by Valentina and decided that it would be great if she could present her place of work (POLYTECHNIC IN POŽEGA) to our sencond year students since this upcoming summer they will graduate and they are currently thinking about what their future is going to be like. Their courses looked very interesting and our students seem very intrigued since we learnt that they produce their own wine!

After all these presentations, we took the time to talk about about what we could do for each other. These talks have been very productive and we are just in the final stages just reading through the final agreement in order to sign it. The conclusions that we came to are:

• Each year a couple of Croatian students can come to Madrid to do their trainships, since we would look for companies that could host them.
• Also, they could host a couple of our students for their trainships, since their biology programmes are a perfect fit for our Dietetics students.

We hope that this collaboration will last for a long time and that we can do projects together in the future!

Como a algunos de vosotros os sonará, desde hace unos años hemos podido mandar a algunos de nuestros alumnos al extranjero para hacer sus prácticas (FCT) gracias al programa ERASMUS+. Hace unos años, un par de nuestros alumnos de Dietética pudieron realizar sus FCT en Croacia en la POLITÉCNICA DE POŽEGA en donde tuvieron una gran y enriquecedora experiencia. Y es gracias a esta colaboración que hemos podido conocer a Valentina aquí en Madrid.

Valentina vino a visitarnos a la Escuela Profesional Javeriana para conocernos (dado que solo habíamos estado en contacto a través de e-mails) y para ver si podíamos dar un paso más en nuestra colaboración entre ambas instituciones. La visita de Valentina empezó con un pequeño tour de nuestra escuela para conocernos un poco mejor y le explicamos como funcionamos, cuales son  nuestros principales objetivos y el perfil de nuestros alumnos. ¡Fue en ese momento en el que nos dimos cuenta de que nuestras instituciones se parecen más de lo que pensábamos!

Aprovechamos la oportunidad que nos ofreció Valentina de presentar a nuestros alumnos de segundo curso la Politécnica de Pozega dado que ellos esté próximo verano se graduarán y ya están pensando en cuales van a ser sus próximos pasos de cara a su futuro. Los cursos que oferta la Politécnica nos perecieron muy interesantes y nuestros alumnos quedaron muy intrigados cuando supimos que ¡allí producen su propio vino!

Después de todas estas presentaciones, aprovechamos todo el tiempo que tuvimos disponible para hablar de qué podemos ofrecer cada institución para que nuestros alumnos tengan la mejor experiencia posible. Fuimos muy productivos y ya solo nos queda leer el acuerdo y firmarlo tras llegar a las siguientes conclusiones:

• Cada año un par de estudiantes croatas podrán venir a Madrid a realizar sus prácticas en empresas, dado que nosotros nos encargaremos de buscar las empresas para ellos.
• Del mismo modo, la Politécnica  podrá a coger a un par de nuestros alumnos dado que sus programas de la rama biológica serían perfectos para nuestros alumnos de Dietética.

¡Esperamos que esta colaboración dure por muchos años y que podamos hacer  muchos proyectos juntos!

Adventures from our ERASMUS students

We cannot believe it... but our ERASMUS students have already passed the equator of this amazing experience that they are living this year.

After so many days of addapting, learning new things and working, meeting new cultures and learning to work as a team, our students have had the chance to enjoy a long holiday weekend and some of them have decided to travel a little...

Pablo from Administration and Finance has sent us this words about the experience he has lived while visiting Krakow.

Hello everyone!!

I don't  know how to say that Krakow is incredible!!

The streets, the churchs, the people, the towers, the castle... all from Krakow is fantastic.

We are very lucky, cause the weather is fantastic and very sunny.

When we arrived, we went to Auschwitz and Bikernau, two of the most famous Nazi camps in the world.

The guide was fantastic, and we saw incredible places, cause there is much history behind all of it. 

We could understand how the jews live there, how they suffered bad treatment. 

The apartament we rented was also incredible, really new, and very close to the city center.

We had time to visit all, to walk arround the city, to enjoy, and have something to drink and eat in the big square...

I'm very happy to stay there, and visit this country!!!

Andrada from Administration and Finance has told us the following:

Los días aquí pasan tan rápido que se me está quedando muy corto este Erasmus.....Quiero más tiempo! Jajajaja No os podéis ni imaginar lo muchísimo que estoy disfrutando mi Erasmus, pero es que aquí estoy en una nube, entre semana las prácticas en la empresa son geniales, estoy aprendiendo muchísimo, mis compis son geniales, como os dije al principio nos han acogido muy bien, nos ayudan y nos forman y el ambiente en la oficina es relajado y siempre hay buen rollo.

En cuanto a los fines de semana, estoy de viajera, el fin de semana pasado estuve en Gdansk (una ciudad preciosa al norte de Polonia) he visto el mar Báltico, he ido en barco, he visto museos, y las calles de Gdansk un regalo para la vista y para el alma, aún no he visto todo de Polonia pero creo que Gdansk es lo más bonito que puede uno visitar de Polonia 🇵🇱.

Ana, Jesús and Franco from International Trade have had the opportunity to travel to new places also! They have taken advantage of a couple of national holidays to travel with work colleagues from different countries.

Finally, Adrián is still waiting for the weather to improve in the UK, but he seems to be eating healthy! 😄

Now they have to start focusing on finishing the final year project that they have to present when they return back home, as well as keep working in their companies trying to finish their internships the best way they can.

Before we know it, they will be back in Madrid!

BEDA BEST PRACTICES FORUM: CONCLUSION

A great experience!! I really loved presenting “Business is fun” to English teachers. It was so great having the opportunity to launch the challenge and see all the teachers working on it in English. I have to say they did a great job generating ideas on a Saturday morning J. What they liked most: adapting the materials, the patent form, entrepreuning in English, and using storyboardthat.

In the end we agreed: Business is fun!
