Connecting classrooms: our first videoconference with Vista College

Last week, our students had their very first online exchange with students from Vista College in the Netherlands—and what an experience it was!

After a short introduction from the teachers, we jumped into breakout rooms where students from both schools introduced themselves, shared fun facts, and presented their schools. From Transport and Logistics to International Trade, it was clear we had a lot to talk about!

The atmosphere was very friendly, and despite the nerves, everyone managed to communicate confidently in English. There were even a few laughs when we discovered some surprising things we had in common.

"It was great to see our English being used in a real context, and even better to connect with people our age from another country. We’re already looking forward to the next session!"

Stay tuned for more updates from this exciting project 🌍✈️

FINSPAIN #TIB: SHOPPING IN OULU AND MADRID (PART III)

Third videoconference session: Final presentation

Finally, after all the work together, we had the chance to present our final result to the rest of the teams and teachers participating in this proyect.

We explained our topics and commented on the differences and similarities between the shops in Spain and Finland. We were nervous but we are proud of our result.

Afterwards, another team gave us feedback and it was very interesting and helpful hearing their opinion.

After our presentations, we created a word cloud:

Evaluation

Once we had finished our presentations, we had a discussion session in class evaluating our project and giving feedback about our experience and how to improve it. We also talked about everything we learned working on FinSpain TIB.

Here are some of the ideas we shared about what we learned. If you click on the image you can access all the information.

FINSPAIN #TIB: SHOPPING IN OULU AND MADRID (PART II)

We continued our international adventure during the whole month of March. Our next steps were:

Gathering information: Field work

Friday 3rd of March we used our 2 hours of English class to go to the shops and gather information about prices, products and schedules.

We took pictures of the shops and  different products.  Some of us also talked with the workers and asked for information about the products. It was fun!

Afterwards we prepared a presentation that we shared with our teammates in Finland through the common Teams Channel.

Second videoconference session: working together

In the second session we presented and combined the information that each subgroup had researched and then we compared the businesses, their location, their opening hours, etc. We split up the slides, checked the length of the presentation, and rehearsed.

FINSPAIN #TIB: SHOPPING IN OULU AND MADRID (PART I)

This is our class: International Trade 1 in EP. Javeriana and we would like to tell you about our project #Finspain #TogetherInBusiness #TIB.

Introduction

We worked on a combined project with students from OSAO Vocational School in Finland and from EPJaveriana in Madrid.

It was really exciting since we worked in small groups with students from Finland and Spain to be able to analyse commercial information in both countries.

The project consisted in comparing different stores and products of Spain and Finland and there were eight different groups who worked on these different topics:

First videoconference session: meeting our teammates

On the first session, we were very nervous, because we did not know what we were going to find.

Previously, in class we had worked on a presentation where we talked about Spain, its culture and what we liked the most. We also talked about the degree we studied, its subjects and what we could work on once we finished our studies.

Then we watched a video, where teamwork was represented, and with it a brainstorming where we put the necessary points for teamwork to be good.

And with an application we created the logo of our team and we named it. We were able to share a nice moment with our team mates in Finland and get to know them a little bit.

We will let you know about our next steps soon!!!

Business is fun: Shopping in Madrid

In the EP Javeriana, Business is fun: 5 teams visited different Shopping areas in Madrid and took pictures of the signs they could find in English. The tweeted the information and then analysed the language used. They presented their results to the class. This is Group’s 3 presentation. They visited Serrano and this is what Mario Marín writes about his experience working on the project:

“With the work "Shopping in Madrid" we've learnt that it's very important to have commercials and announcements in English so they can attract and seek the attention of the clients, visitors, tourists, or people who come from abroad. For example the announcement of new season clothes, or a new 50% off on sales... it was a very good experience working on this and surely I'd repeat it!!!”

Business is fun: Online Shop

In the EP Javeriana, Business is fun and we work on different projects during the School year. Online Shop is one of the favourite ones. The different teams launch a new business by developing an online shop. To sell globally, the website needs to be in English, of course!

The group with David Crespo, Nayelly Lara, Leila Maujo and Miguel del Villar launched Wine&Box. This is what David Crespo writes about their project:

"We think that wine is one of the most famous drinks of our country, and we think on that about how we can sell this product in an original package, so in our website you can choose a popular wine, a different type of box, and you can personalize the box and the stickers as you like. I mean, if it's Saint Valentine's Day, you can create your own box personalised or choose a special creation, you can give as a present.

We offer you three different types of wine: red wine, pink wine and white wine. In these three types of wine, you can choose your perfect election with three different prices. High Price, Medium Price and cheap. We adapt to our customers.

In this project, we needed to be a group more than ever in the course, because we wanted a very great work: we needed a great website, but we also needed a great pitch for sell our product on the presentation for the class, and personally, I really enjoy it.

What did we learn?

In this project, we learnt a lot about how difficult is to have a novel idea and put it into operation. First we were thinking about the idea, after that we split for some to make the design of the web in an attractive way, we had to look for various types of wines and boxes, perform a return policy and even a list of frequently asked questions. Finally, we created a slogan to present the brand and look for an attractive way to present our website.

A new flag for Madrid

In the Escuela Profesional Javeriana we decided to redesign the Flag of the City of Madrid with our assistant Claire Magee. We followed the following steps:

1. We wached the video by Roman Mars on TED Talks to find out about the rules of flag design

    2. Following the 5 principles of flag design, each group of students worked on three different possibilities

    3. They chose the best one to present to the class and explained the symbolism of the design and colours.

    4. Each class voted the best design to show on the English Corner

Coming soon the winning flag designs for the City of Madrid...

    Infergo
    Dear teacher:

The project website was very good because we were able to learn how to create a website and how complicated it is. We thought of an antique product because there are a lot of collectors and we decided it was a great opportunity to sell their products online. We did it using Dreamweaver.

    Greetings!
